the return of the jamband
Wow, this is the year for the comeback of 90s jambands! GSW... From Good Homes (who I didn't discover till later in life, but they sure do kick ass) Maybe they figured the music world needed the return… Haven't listened to God Street Wine in over 10 years, but man I used to rock out to these guys so much. Reminds me of a simpler time in music, maybe a time when I was less bitter about music (would I still like these guys if they came out this year?) Anyway, this is a band from the Golden Age of jambands. ah, the fun nights at the Wetlands in those days…
Now all we need is Reid back in Strangefolk, and moe. to stick to songs such as Mexico and Rebubula and I'll feel like Im 16 again!
Anybody else get down to those early GSW CDs like me?

A Year Since Hampton Mix

Can’t believe its been a year since Hampton… That sure was some weekend. To celebrate, I made another Phish mix. I actually didn’t even include anything from Hampton…. Maybe this mix is more a celebration of a year since the return of Phish….
One of the few soundboards to have leaked from Big Cypress. One of the seminal jams from this monumental Performance
A perfect soundboard. Some of the hardest Phish Phunk ever performed. A ghost for the ages….
Bela is one of the few guest musicians that can sit in with Phish and improve the music. This is just a fun little improv section from one of these occasions
There are some days where I think to myself that this is the best Phish jam ever. Its probably when I realize that around the 30 minute mark, my brain is floating on Pluto. The QT section is just a perfect display of pure ambient goodness. Its like floating on air…. Oh ya…. Soundboard… nice…..
Another killer soundboard. This Halleys is a journey. It reaches all good places. Don’t really even know how to describe it, just that this Halleys is absolutely must-hear Phish.
August 93… one of THE months of Phish. This Reba is a rager… Very reminiscent of the Gin from the Murat Theater just 3 days before.
Dissolves into pure 99 ambient floating for quite some time. Definitely a mind bender. Recently i’ve been getting such an appreciation for 1999 as an incredible year of Phish.
A 30 minute Free. Enough said. Features some heavy 95 percussive playing, yet reaches some pretty intense places on the way. Making this an absolutely unique version of Free. Even features a whistling section around 25 minutes, followed by a magestic ending
Just a perfectly executed version of Slave. Such a powerful ending. Will leave you clenching your fists and wanting more….
Just a beautiful song. No other words can really describe this Simple. Its just an amazing version. Its been released on Hampton Comes Alive
Also known as the “Freekapaug” for the madness happening on stage. While I can’t imagine what it must have been like to be there, on tape, this Weekapaug still holds up as one for the ages. Its just relentless.
After that ridiculous Weekapaug, I figured I’d give you a breather. This Driver is a highlight from one of my favorite sets of Phish – the acoustic set at 8
soundboard!! This was such an incredible night. The jam leading up to this 2001 just so great, and when Fishmans busts into the 2001 beat, everything just flows to perfection.
The MLB jam in the intro is what I call triumphant Phish. And really, its just the beginning to a masterpiece of a Bowie. From beginning to end, its one of Phish’s all timers… Very nice soundboard as well.
If YEM is the quintessential Phish jam, and 6/11/94 is the quintessential YEM, then whats that saying?
A true classic. I felt like in 2009, this tune’s importance was realized again. This song is just the essence of Phish. What Phish was built off of. This early version is performed with such youthful energy, its revitalizing to hear…
The funk was so deep, they just couldn’t stop…
92 is just a perfect year for Hoods. Their style of jamming during this year complemented Hood jams. They were beginning to test the waters of what they could produce with this jam…. and man… Hoods have gone to some incredible places…. This one is an early highlight….
Come on, everyone should hear this at least once. Its actually pretty good! And a soundboard!

Some Old School Panic
I’d like to report that the recording of Furthur at Radio City has just broken the download record on my site with “4” downloads. Thanks guys! We’ve officially hit the bigtime! (:

I figured it was time I posted some Panic for ya’all. This show from New Years 1998 is about as good as it gets. If you have never truly given Panic a listen, this is the perfect place to begin. To start, its an FM soundboard, so that helps…. But this is just a top notch setlist performed masterfully. Each player brings something strong to the table. Schools holds it all down, John Bell’s vocals are in perfect form, JoJo is a madman on his Hammond all night, and Mikey Houser is just a machine.
Each song is pretty much a masterpiece, and I say that without question. It is difficult for me to pick out highlights because time should be spent with each tune, but I guarantee that if you start at the beginning and play it loud, you will be thoroughly impressed. This gets pretty dark and kind of dirty, and it just never lets up. The ballads, Im not Alone, Jack are filled with heart wrenching soul. Genesis, the Hot Tuna song, is a true highlight, it gets pretty dirty there for a bit and is just a beautiful version of a great song. Wondering, normally 3 minutes is stretched out and perfected. Diner reaches 18 minutes and is followed by a killer Rebirtha. But perhaps the strongest highlight is the cover of the Talking Heads City of Dreams. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any track in this show. Give it a good listen. Rock out in your car. And let me know what you think!

2000 Goodness
http://www.mediafire.com/?medvgnizmnj
So Alex emailed today telling me to listen to Ghost from 6/15/2000 Japan. Coming a day after one of the most psychedelic Phish shows there is (as documented on one of the original LivePhish releases), I knew it was going to be good. And He was right, its friggin nasty. A great version of Ghost. Enters some ambient space and builds to a real nice peak that just envelops you and makes you want more. Actually reminds me of a First Tube style ending, like the one from the Garden this year. The Japan 2000 tour was pretty special.
I countered telling him to listen to Tweezer from a few days later, 6/24/2000 from Atlanta. Best part is, this is a pro soundboard. shhhhh…. it sounds great. Yet another great Tweezer, lots of explorations and band interplay. Pretty powerful beginning to end. Extremely creative version that never loses steam.
Both these tunes are great examples that 2000 really was a great year to see Phish.
Whats your favorite Bathtub Gin?

Bathtub Gin is an amazing song. It can be a powerhouse, it can be a groove, or it can be a melodic softer jam too. Everyone has their own idea of what version is the best. The greatest part is, they are all right! There are just so many incredible versions of this song. Each deserves a good listen. This is a compilation of my favorites. Are your faves on this list? What should be added? What should be taken away? This is also a test to see how many people are actually reading and listening to what I write! (:

Phriday Phish
This was a mix I put together just yesterday.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZEAEZ2Y4
Ghost -> My Left Toe 10/9/1999 Albany, NY
ahhh… the first show that Eric and I ever saw together. How many has it been since? A lot of things happened just right this day. For instance, we didn't have a ride, but this guy by the name of Mike Greenhaus who we had just met found us a one. 11 years later, we are all still the best of friends and have seen countless shows together. (and on this ride Eric first heard the Disco Biscuits and his life was forever changed)
This Ghost >My Left Toe is classic for this era. Great jam that dissolves into pure ambience for the brain
Stash 10/10/1999 Albany, NY
just the very next night. Best seats I ever had. This Stash is a journey with some epic explorations….
Light up or Leave Me Alone 8/21/87 Ians farm
Some intense playing for such early Phish. What it must have been like to be there… its pretty prominent, but listen for Trey's dog Marley take some solos of his own.
Slave to the Traffic Light 11/14/97West Valley City, UT
Just listening to this last night. I love Slave. Always so epic and this one is pretty powerful with a never-ending peak
Reba >Walk Away > Simple 10/29/98 Los Angeles, CA
A great trio of songs. Reba gets super ambient. Classic for 1998. The transitions between all 3 tunes are perfect and the songs just go so great together
Tweezer 8/1/98 Alpine Valley
Just an all around great Tweezer. there are so many great Tweezers to choose from. I just love the feel of this one. Makes me real happy. Great playing by everyone. They are really listening to each other. Probably one of the better Tweezers there is in my opinion
Boogie on Reggae Woman 9/18/99
This one actually starts off only OK. They have some trouble finding something to do, so it starts off with a pretty stale groove. But for some reason, Trey had faith in this one and doesn't give up. They immediately find there groove and it becomes just an epic and powerful jam. It soars high in the sky. And if thats not all, after the epicness, they bring it down and trade off grooves with some start-stop funk to keep you dancing and bobbing your head
Cities 8/10/97
Just one for the ages. A great jam. the last few minutes are pure bliss
Mikes Song 12/7/1995
Had to end it with some power. This Mikes Song is what this tune is all about. Some classic December 95, very percussive and straight fury. It will leave you wanting more, but sorry, thats it! Maybe more next Friday! This is also the best recording of this song that I have found.
248 Hood Jams 1985-2004

Here it is, my first post! Come here as much as you want whenever you need some tunes. I take requests too. I will try to update it often, but who knows how this will go. Feel free to comment on anything.
